The Ex9UE1+2 25 line is a group of Class I+II Surge Protective Devices (SPD). They are intended for protection against the direct impacts of medium-intensity lightning strikes. In a standard TN-C three-phase network, they provide protection up to LPL I and II requirements as defined in the EN 62305 standard, with a total lightning current introduced into the electrical system of 75 kA and a total lightning discharge current of 150 or 200 kA, depending on the physical configuration and the relative position between the lightning rod grounding point, the electrical system grounding point, and the SPD installation point.

The design of the Ex9UE1+2 25 is a hybrid type, based on the combination of high-energy Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV) and an isolation Spark Gap (SG). This combination offers a faster response time due to the speed of the MOV and the low voltage of the SG, compared to a solution using only an SG. The series connection of the MOV allows for the limitation of the SG’s follow current while ensuring complete isolation thanks to the series connection between the SG and MOV.

The main characteristics are primarily determined by the MOV component. The resulting protection level and response characteristics meet the requirements of both Class I and Class II SPDs. Therefore, the Ex9UE1+2 25 provides protection for both classes. The modular design with plug-in inserts allows for simple and rapid replacement of functional modules in the event that the MOV exceeds its service life due to high-intensity or high-frequency surge events.
